Sometimes, there is a painting… (by Romina Goncalves)

A friend told me about her honeymoon in Cuba, the way she loved Celia Cruz and her project about re-decorating her flat. A paintig was the resulting idea of all that chatting. It is curious the way inspiration comes to you. It is like a simple and unespected idea that surprizes you. From that moment onwards, the idea possessed my mind.

The first problem was to search for material. I knew the painting was going to be about Cuba. The question was what material and how to deal with it. We can find lots of things on the Net.

Hi Romina. The painting is very beautiful. It's very colourful and it is as though one were sharing a moment sorrounded by beach people and a magic landscape. As regards inspiration, I am not an artist like you to hold a reliable opinion, but I remember that when I was in 7º I had a moment of artistic inspiration when the headmaster of my school asked some students to paint a gaucho for the 'Fiesta de La Tradicion'. He told us that he would select a few to be exposed in that festival as an atraction to the families that would come to see their children dance folklore. I remember that I was so inspired, as it was my last year of primary in that school, that I painted a gaucho of 2,5 mts high and 2 mts wide. I suppose that inspiration is an instance of great or deep motivation, inherent in people like artists, poets, artesans and even in writers, that leads them produce such pretty things. Well, congrats, Bye-bye

After reading Romi´s experience, I can say that MOTIVATION makes inspiration, and inspiration leads to creativity. I think motivation is the fuel that provokes the desire to learn though the subject we are dealing with is not the one we like most. Interest and involment seem to be vital ingredients that move us to achieve and create interesting things.

Yes Yanina, I agree on that. But.. I prefer to search for more reliable information on INSPIRATION in the Roget's Thesausus Dictionary of Sinonyms since it seems, at least to me, to be an abstract concept rather than a simple word. One of the synonims available there for inspiration is revelation associated with light, prophecy, epiphany, emanation, Ten Commandments and so forth. So, it logically follows that the Ten commandments were God's inspiration. In a similar sense, epiphany, which in Literature might be a sort of enlightenment resulting in a character's great understanding of an event within a story, may result from the inspiration arising from someone in the novel. MOTIVATION, on the other hand, is the cause of an action (Roget's Thesaurus). If a character of a particular novel evidences epiphany or inspiration then the cause or the motivation for such action might have been due to different or several reasons.

Inspiration is a feature that few people have but to make a real good piece of artwork, they must have talent and skill. When these things are combined great productions come from them. It's great that these things happen from time to time. Congrats for your painting! It's absolutely incredible.

Romi, possibly you were visited by an inspiring angel who drove you to create a piece of paradise, a Nature´s caress, a kiss of the Sun who lives in your creative hearth and escaped from your sensitiveness to tan the people in the landscape and to warm our souls. This enjoyable painting comes from an artist´s hands. Congrats, Ro!
